Default A6 2.8 reliability

I'm starting college in january so I want something thats gonna be somewhat reliable. So the question is how reliable is the a pre 2000 audi a6 2.8. what problems should i expect?
From what I've herd so far is that the 2.8 is very reliable But i just wanted to double check before i go out and buy it. Because I'm thinking about gettin a lincoln LS if the audi would be too much of an investment.

Default RE: A6 2.8 reliability

The 2.8 is a very reliable engine. I have a 96 A6 with 90K miles and it does not even burn any oil. As in all cars, regular maintenance is a must. Using quality oil & filters will prolong the life. Mann filters and synthetic oils. You must have the timing belt done at like 80K miles. And keep an eye on the front end, controll arms, tie rod ends.

You will be rewarded with many miles on the 2.8. And quattro is the ****!!!
