A6 Dies when a/c is turned on
Hey everyone,
this morning when i was going to pickup my girlfriend i turned on the a/c after a mile the car just died at a red light. I tried to start the car but i got nothing and luckily there was a cop who gave me a push with his cruiser. When i pulled the A6 into a parking lot i made sure the a/c was off and the car started to work fine until i turned the a/c back on. There was some noise coming from under the hood like something was stuck and the car died again. When i got home i was i only had the fans working on the a/c and when i turned the cooling back on the car died. If anyone has any idea please let me know.
Thank you very much
Burak

is your A/C compressor seized?, If may draw locked rotor amperage if it is, this may be more than your alternator can handle, which in turn kills the vehicle. Darn us low paying, dead end job type A/C technicians

what about your CEL did it come on? i wanna rule out poor ignition system ( warn spark plugs and most likely wires) such that when compressor is turn on, more power is desired, which can't be provided by engine. also check your air filter, take a look at your rev counter at idle with AC off, see if it fluctuates, this will rule out leaky vacuums.

What he said x2, you should def find make certain that things run and are in good working order, If all seems well, then look at that A/C comp., if you can get an amp clamp on the hot wire when it starts, check its amperage

Burak,
Not to sound mean, but if you don't know how to find an A/C compressor by looking, you don't have the skill set to analyze the problem, much less to fix it. Take it to a professional. You will save time and grief.
Good luck,
Bob
