a6 roof racks
#2
I have a Yakima rack. But mine is avant and already has roof rails. Anyways, the reason that I prefer Yakima vs Thule is that the Yakima bars are round. I noticed that Thule rack bars tends to get bent after awhile, and it can only be installed 2 sides out of 4, where yakima bars can be rotated pretty much 360 degrees.
As for the attachments, both manufacturers make attachment kit for the other manufacturer, so that should not be an issue.

To gaser's point, I have Thule bars on a BMW X5 and they are round, actually oval, providing less wind resistance than their square ones. They also have come out with a more aerodynamic version. They are 3 years old and have had some heavy cargo boxes on them in that time. No bends in my experience.
And thanks gaser for your comments about bar length.
