Default A6 supercharger

Hey guys, does anyone know how much power the 02-04 A6 4.2s tranny could handle??? I just found a supercharger for the 4.2 that says it makes 25-30% mroe power (75-90 chp). Could the tranny handle that? I don't drive my car hard too often (now anyways) so thats not a big deal. I will have it rebuilt later if I have to.

The 4.2 owners can speak more authoritatively, but after I chipped my 2.7T (250=>318hp) I had to replace the manual clutch within 10k miles. From what I have read here, it is not a cheap proposition to rebuild an Audi tranny. Ask yourself how much the extra power is really worth.

So its a 4psi boost?

The main thing that will happen with a supercharge with low boost like this will be a broadening of the torque curve, not so much lots more of it.

Perhaps you are taking about the ECS supercharger? Anyways, although the website suggests that the supercharger will not impact automatic tranny, I somewhat suspect that. Transmissions on 4.2s are suseptible to failure to begin with. If you add 75 more horses to the already precarious transmission, I think you are asking for it.

Just my 2 cents...

Default thanks, and...

I appreciate the input. It sounds kinda like an APR chip and intake is more the way to go. So then I have to ask; Do you guys know of any good carbon fiber parts for the A6? I prefer a stock look (no scoops or hood pins) if possible for the hood. And Ive heard of roof panels and trunks on BMWs, think someone has them for Audi?

Get on audizine. KingofNYC has the G4 on his S6. Full write up on it, dyno graphs, stock trans I believe.

you are crazy to spend 10 grand on the setup and installation of the supercharger, and it will more then likely blow your tranny within weeks at the max.. the weakest link of the 4.2 is the stock trans and torque converter, it has a hard enough time with the stock 300 horsepower.. so to upgrade electronics as well as the s/c and a stronger tranny/torque converter your looking at 15-20 grand for 75 horsepower, imo thats way too much buc for the bang.. as for kingofnyc his s6 avant is awesome!! i love his car, and much respect to him for all the time and effort going into his car... its just nuts to me.. but then again if i had the money..... why not

He hasnt had any issues with it. He is on the low boost setting, no intercooler(6psi?). I know the trans is weak, but a rebuild from 517 is like 2k, with an upgraded valve body and TC. It would be less than 15k to run this setup...

His car runs with the new v10 S6's though, and it has more potential. I mean, if you want a C5, a G4 is a better way to go than an RS6, cost too damn much to maintain.

Only more cost effective way is to get a wicked stage 3 2.7T car.

A little off topic, but how is the trans on the 2.7T (TIP) compared to the 4.2? I've often thought about just going with a 2.7T, chip and intercoolers, but I love the widebody of the 4.2. As I said before though, I don't even drive very hard anymore (usually).

Don't have one (my tip is mated to the mighty 3.0 V6), but I haven't heard too many god things there either once you start upping the boost and asking it to handle extra hp. With the exception of DSG, I personally consider all VAG automatics crap. That's why I'm in the hunt for a 2.7t mated to a 6spd
