Default A6 Wagon Liftgate

I have just newly aquired a 1999 A6 Quatro Wagon and the license plate mounting area is broken from a parking lot mishap. It appear to be a plastic/metal glued together assembly. 2 questions, 1st how much do they cost?, and are they a do-it-yourself job or do they require the services of a dealer?

If your talking about the plastic plate behind the license plate yes you can replace it.
If you take off the license plate there should be two torx bolts, if there isn't, it has a very strong adheasive that really takes some elbow grease to pry off and replace.

It is the piece that has the backup lamps in it and it has a fancy paint texture on the inside and it fits flush with the liftgate shhet metal.

Oh i don't know about that piece, im sure its either bolted in or it snaps in but i can't be sure.
The best thing to do is go to the dealer's part department and have them look the part up on ETKA and see if the part is available and how it is attached to the liftgate.

You have to take the back trim piece off of the tail gate. To start this you need to pop out the sun shade to get access to the screws. I think that is the hardest part because it is bitch to get out you have to use a plastic type of pry bar or you will gouge the shade. The rest of the clips and screws are pretty basic. I think there is some screws behind the latch cover also. Don't force anything or you brake the plastic. If it looks like it does not want to come off you missed a screw somewhere. Hope this helps
