its the module. ALL Audi a6 modules are defective in which a resistor comes loose and connection to the car computer fails bringing up the light. The module can be rebuilt though, Bosch seriously messed this one up!!![:@]

I have the same problem. I am very good with small electronics, can I repair it myself?

Just sent my 98 A6 Quattro 2.8 module to modulemaster.com. who I located on this forum The part is relatively easy to pull with the instructions on the website. Some repair shops will suggest you replace the pump, which I understand is almost neverbad, along with the module which in fact has a high failure rate. My quote was for about $2400 for the whole deal or $1000 for the module alone and about $250 in labor. I pulled the module myself which took about an hour and will pay Module Master $200 to have it repaired. I'll be real surprised if the pump is also bad and this doesn't fix things.I'm looking forward to a clean and quiet (no lights, no bells) instrument panel and, oh yeah, saving a $1000 bill.
