Clean your ABS sensors

Mine used to do that until I burnt out the abs light bulb. The ABS wheel sensors probably never get cleaned and they are a magnet so they probably got so much crap on them they can't read the wheels. Mine burned out at 130K because of it. 170 a piece so a little prevention saves you a lot of money.

It is not bad if the ABS bulb comes on, you still have brakes.

Cleaning the sensors, pretty easy with the 97. Ahead of the rear drums and behind the fronts is a cylinder (you will only see the plastic cap with a wire) about 1/2 inch (10 mm) in diameter. Find something that can get a good grip around the plastic cap (but not damage it) and it should just slide out. Depending on your mileage, it may be really stuck so you might need to twist a little but they just slide in and out. Clean it off, and it is recommended that you also put a tiny bit of oil on the sensor and rub it in to make it slide easier (I agree). If you already cooked the sensor, this won't help and you can kiss 170$ X # of sensors gone (your computer will tell you how many misread).
