Default Advice on A6 economy

Hi guys,

I'm new here and in need of a bit of advice from someone far more in the know than me!

Been looking at getting an Audi for a while and popped into our local dealer after doing some research. Decided that I wanted the 2.0 TDI 140 engine, be that in an A3 or A4. There wasn't much around anywhere in the sort of pricerange I was looking for, but I was offered an A6 2008 (C6) SE with 26k miles and managed to get a hefty discount (down to £15.5k). Took it for a spin and really liked it, including all the toys.

I'm now having a bit of buyer's remorse! I'm saving for a house and the mileage I do means the MPG and servicing/repair costs are down to a minimum. Depreciation is also important. I put down £1k at the dealer to hold it and planned to go in this week to pay the full deposit.

I'm worried about how much this car is going to cost to run, so I'm wondering whether or not to call them up tomorrow and say I want to choose something cheaper to buy and run (an A3 with 1.9 TDI is looking quite a good option).

It would be a shame because I do like the car, but a house is more important. I'm prepared to foot the extra cost of the car if the economy is compatible with the A3, but being new to Audi I defer to your expertise!

Any thought would be appreciated.

Sorry don't know much about the TDI options since they aren't very prevalent here in the States. I would suspect that the mileage to be quite good.

Bottom line is that the Audis are typically a bit more expensive to own and maintain. It seems from your post like a house is a pretty big priority for you. It might serve you better in the long run to go for the A3 or even to postpone your buying decision for a few more days to "think about it" some more. Whichever car you get you don't want to end up blaming the car for you not being able to afford the house.

just my opinion. good luck
