Default Alarm malfunctioning. Any ideas?

The past couple of days the alarm in my 98 A6 would go off for no reason. Just parked in an enclosed driveway, or out in the street I would hear the alarm go off then about two minutes later the sound would cease but the lights would still flash. Does this mean the alarm is very sensitive now for some reason or is the alarm system on it's last legs? This seems very strange as I've never had this problem before. Has anyone experienced this before or know the cause of this problem?

You have bugs in your interior. Turn off the interior motion sensor and all will be silent .... until the next time you inadvertantly hit the interior motion sensor button. I wish someone could tell me how to disable my alarm entirely.

Thanks!

That is exactly the problem.

I checked and the cap for the interior motion sensor button is completely missing.
