Default alarm problems

ok so i bought my 02 a6 this spring and since i have owned it i have had some troubles with the alarm.
It will randomly go off for no reason and it seems to be becoming progressively worse. It acts up just when it is parked and i am nowhere near it most of the timeor if anyone is in the car and it is locked and turned off also
i also notice it is worse on very hot days, which is why im sure it is electrical.
can anyone help me figure out whats wrong?

It's going off for a reason, you just don't k know what that reason is. Do you have a vag-com? It can tell you why it's going off. Also, are you leaving your windows open at all? Do all your doors turn the dome lights on as expected?

Do all your doors turn the dome lights on as expected? Do you have a windows laptop, preferably with XP on it?

There is not a lot you can do to diagnose the alarm without a vag-com. If all your doors are working correctly, your windows aren't open when it's happening, then you will have to dig further. FWIW, a vag-com is not the same as a obd code reader you buy at Napa.

If you feel like setting up vag-com on your laptop let me know and I will help you if you go the cheap ebay cable route $15.00. If you go OEM Vag-Com $200-300.00 it's self explanatory. With Windows 7, depending on what version you have, depends on what you need to do. For me, on a 7-64bit Home Premium, I have VMware running a virtual XP machine.

This is the cable I have (gone up in price) http://www.alpha-bid.com/vagusb.html

If you have a 32bit version of 7, it should just work. I have a 64bit and there are no cable drivers for the aftermarket cables for 64bit, only 32.

What specific version of 7 do you have? ie. 7 64bit Home Premium, 7 64 Professional, 7 64 Ultimate, 7 32 Home premium, 7 32 Professional, 7 32 Ultimate

It looks like Alpha-bid now provides drivers for 7 64bit, but I still can't get vag-com to run on 7 64. So I know of 1 way to make this work, but it requires a lot of effort. You will need.

1. VMWare (pm me)
2. XP Full install CD/dvd
3. cable drivers (pm me)
4. vag-com softare

You will have to install VMware, then use it to install a copy of XP in what's called a Virtual Machine, then install Vag-com and drivers in your Virtual XP OS.

If your not computer savvy, just buy the cable for 250.00 from ross-tech. If I didn't already have my working fine, I would buy an oem one. It will pay for itself for years to come.

Check here to see if someone is possibly close by that will loan you their vag-com. http://vagcomlocator.com/tinc?key=cS...ormname=VAGCOM
