Am I crazy getting this A6?
Alright,
I am a college student and I recently parted ways with a car I was leasing (2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner Sport) and decided to go back to Audi (I owned a 1996 A4 2.8 3 years ago). I got an awesome deal on a 1999 A6 Avant that is seriously in immaculate condition owned by a wealthy guy from Saratoga, CA. The problem: the car has 200K. When I drove it, the A6 drove better than our 2001 Mercedes S430 (160K). Assuming the car is up-to-date, will this car survive at least a year with light driving? Thanks guys! It feels great to be back where I belong in the Audi world!

Well, 20k a year has to be mostly highway miles, no? Did you get the paperwork so you know what was done? If it was well taken care of (and it sems to be) and price was really good, then no problem. It just might make it to 300k.
Are you crazy? In my opinion it's when your "normal" that you need to start worrying.
Did you get any records? If the t-belt, tensioner, rollers, and water system are up to date you would be better off.
That said you will definitely have problems. Audi's are needy little *****.

It has all the records and the car was always serviced at a local dealership (Stevens Creek Audi in San Jose). T-belt was done. I am picking the car up on Monday and I'm really excited.
You did good, now maintain it properly since it obviously likes good care and returns the favor to the owner. I love those Avants.
I had an Audi when I was a Freshman about 3 years ago. That A4 was an awesome car and I still regret getting rid of it. Maybe I was blessed, but I never encountered the so-called "Audi issues." The A4 was reaching 200K as well. My parents owned a 5000 in 88 and a 100 in 1992 (?). The 5000 made it to 310K and my dad sold it running fine. I have faith in this new Audi ($3000). I am pretty sure the guy replaced the transmission. Anyways, he replaced this A6 I'm picking up with an RS6 (hopefully that'll be me when I graduate next Summer).
Anyways, thanks for the help...I look forward to taunting everyone with stupid questions.
