I think it be almost impossible to do it this way without a lift. You have to know where every fitting and bolt was by heart. Some of the ways youd have to twist your arm to get at some of the bolts would be imposible to get leverage with if you were laying on your back. I think your best bet would be to pull the whole front end of the car off and remove the engine right out the front of the car.
