Default audi a6 57 plate wipers over shooting

Audi a6 saloon. 2.7 tdi sept 07
My wipers started to thump down.
This went on for a while.
Then they just stopped .
ends up my linkage arm broke.
I bought a second hand unit as the linkage arm was £248.00 plus vat
I paid 65.00
All changed over no problem. But then the wipers started to over shoot.
And started to thump down again
I went bk to garage that fitted them. They re adjusted them. Re sat them
And all was well.
Then I heard a loud noise and they were over shooting again. And only sometimes thumping bk down.
When I first get into the car they eork fine. Stop about 3 to 4 inches away from the edge.
But after a while. Poof they off agsin like they going g to fly off. Over shooting . I put my hand out and they thump pretty hard into my fingers.
What can I do. The garage said they can re adjust. But they done it twice now. And because it sometimes thumps down. It over shoots both ways.
Any and all hhelp will be appreciated

Default Only in the rain.

Update.
This only happens when it's raining
So I think it might be a sensor.
When it's dry or very light rain to start.
Like when I first start the car. It works perfectly. As the rain starts. Or starts to pick up. Then they start to over shoot.
Hope someone can help
