Just bought an 01 a6 with the 2.8l in it for $500 a week ago. Can't go wrong for a decent running car. Into the first week it starts to tick pretty loudly, thought maybe it was a lifter with the fresh oil i put into it. A few days later it kills on the highway and had to be towed back. Now i'm trying to diagnose what went wrong and can't seem to pinpoint anything. It has good spark and fuel. I've replaced the crankshaft position sensor but maybe its something with the timing belt? Any ideas?
