Red face Audi A6 Inspection findings- Need your help

Hey Guys, Happy to find this forum. And i am new to Audi

Brief history, I live in Germany and last month I bought a second hand Audi A6 Avant (2009, 2.7 TDI, 190 PS, 150,000 KM, Automatic Transmission) in Germany. When I bought the car, it was due for the Long Life service inspection (150K).

I made an Inspection with a local audi dealer on my own cost and as result of the Inspection, I have the following two findings:

1) Front tyre type which i have currently is 225/55 R16 95Y (only for the front, rear has the correct type). But the service man said i should have 225/55 R16 99Y XL. Otherwise he said it may burst in high speeds. I like to know how critical (for safety reasons) i have to make this change. Because mostly only two people travels in this car.

2) Electric Fan with control unit is faulty (Part number 4F0959455J) which costs 500 euros for the part + 300 euros for servicing. But even when i travel for some 400kms in a day i did not see any abnormal raise in the motor temperature (motor temperature stays 90deg most of the time). So i I want to know is this faulty fan will affect any engine peformance and safety.

Because I dont know how honest the service man is, because i dont like to spent some 1200 euros immediately after my purchse.

I like to have you experts opinions....

Thanks a lot on your support on this.....

I'm not familiar with your (euro) tire size markings. Is the 95y vs 99y the speed rating?

As for the fan, if it is not causing an issue now, I would just keep an eye on it. It you start to see your car getting hotter replace it. Personally I would just replace it. But. It's probably not that important right now.

1)
95 is the load index while the Y is the speed index (mainly used in Germany due to the autobahn speed limit, or lack thereof).

95 allows 1521 pounds / 690kg
99 allows 1709 pounds / 775kg

Y speed rating is pretty much the fastest tire: 186 mph or 300 km/h

I'm not sure what the a6 Avant requires for the load index but it should be in your service book or manual. I would agree though that for safer driving all tires should be the same

2) The fan is probably not an immediate issue as Jeffla already pointed out. However consider this: If one out of the 2 or 3 fans stopped working it means the other(s) have to work overtime to compensate (probably the reason you haven't seen any temperature issues). Sooner or later the other Fan(s) will stop working or burn out because of the increased usage. So you might save money now by not replacing it since it is not critical but down the line you will spent more since you have to replace more that broke due to the lack of maintenance. - Just my 2 cents

Thumbs up Thx

Thanks for your reply guys.

I understand it is better to change it now than later at more cost.

By the way one more question the estimated cost to change (only for service work) the fan is approx. 500 $. Is it really that much time consuming task ? or can i change this with non-Audi work shop?

You can change/swap/repair pretty much anything on an Audi through and indy shop (non audi work shop). You just have to see if they will accept a part you buy and bring to them or if they want to buy it themselves (which probably means they make more money).
Check around and pick up the phone
