I know that a downshift can use an engine's compression to slow a vehicle.

However, I have noticed that this occurs in my A6 while in 'D' (not using Tiptronic shifting). I don't recall noticing engine compression slowing other vehicles when the automatic transmission downshifts. Is this usual for the A6?

I have purchased my car used, and I am a bit leery about its quirks.
