Default Avant rear latch issues

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a 2000 Avant A6 and lately the rear latch will not close properly. You can try and slam it down harder but that doesn't seem to do anything.

when you close the hatch it bounces up slightly and then catches but when you try and lock it with the FOB the car will not give me the Little I am locked beep and the rear hatch is left unlocked. you can hear all the other doors locking and kind of a buzz sound from the rear but it wont actually lock. In addition to that some times it simply wont even catch so the rear hatch just lays there without actually catching the latch pin.

I have tried spraying in some WD40 around the latch mechanism and in the lock but its doing the same thing.

Any ideas?

You might try adjusting the latch pin. This will require that you remove the chrome strip at the base of the tailgate with a torx bit. You may be able to put some shins under the latch pin to raise it so it can be engaged by the latching mechanism.

Hope this helps,

Mike
