Default bad turn signal

I think I have a bad turn signal relay in my 03 A6. There was a buzzing behind the hazard button on occasion, then the blinkers stopped clicking all together. I can manually make them work, and all of the lights are good. I popped the wood grain surround plate, but now I don't know how to get the hazard button out. Anyone have experience with this?

It is a typical issue with our cars. The switch is held by 2 metal clips at the back, and maybe easier to access it if you remove the cup holder. There is someone in this forum who just replaced the electric relay within the switch after opening it up. Otherwise it is a straight forward replacement with a new part.

Still no luck trying to get that switch out. I'm afraid to force it and break the piece.

Pull the cup holder out. Then get a screw driver and insert it from the cup holder side towards the switch. Push it and it will pop out. Don't worry about the switch itself. You will be replacing it anyways.

Does the cup holder pull straight out, or does it have clips. Will I be replacing the actual red hazard button, or it that clipped to the top of the switch?
Thanks for your help hxgaser!

You will be replacing the entire assembly as shown below.

As you can see, there are metal tabs on both sides of the switch itself. Idea is to compress the tab when the cup holder is out. If I remember correctly, I believe the cup holder had a small plastic tab or something. Just look around the opening, it should be obvious, since I really didn't have any issues with pulling the cup holder out. I agree that it took some forcing to pull the hazard switch out.
