Default camshaft locking tool!

Title should read "Crankshaft" tool NOT "camshaft" tool!!!!! Alright, I've had to stop my TB job for today. I'm not feeling well plus my girl made dinner plans for us tonight, so I didn't get nearly as much done as I wanted to.

As of right now though, I'm stuck on where the crankshaft locking tool goes. I have a diagram of it, but I can't make heads or tails of it. Can anyone be more specific to where it is and what I need to do to access it?

Any help would be great!

I have a 2000 A6 2.8. Thank you!

you mean crankshaft locking tool? on the drivers side of the trans, there is a stubby fork thing with a bolt, holding a cap in place.

Crap! Yes I mean the crankshaft locking tool! I'll have to edit my post. So it's actually on the trans? I'll need to look again for it. Thank you!

Good luck finding it, then even more luck to use the hole! It is almost impossible with normal size hands! To give away a secret, I used this only once and was so thoroughly pissed off that since then I have relied only on the crank pulley mark to set the timing belt. I make sure it is dead on and have had no problems.

Thanks Loach, maybe I'll just try to get by without using it!
