Default Catalytic Converter Problems

Hey guys. So i bought my 2002 Audi A6 3.0 Quattro Sedan with 142k, and apparently my converters are shot. Now i got quoted at $2000 for brand new ones. i was reading that used converters will mess up the oxygen sensors and my check engine light will always be on. Should i get the brand new ones? or is there another solution? A good friend of mine suggested i find a exhaust kit that replaces them but i was doing some research and for this model and there are only front and back axel exhaust kits available, is this true? If not which kit would be best suited for this model? Any help would be much appreciated!

Run a couple cans of CRC guaranteed to Pass (G2P), delete the trouble code and see if CEL comes back.
Amazon.com: CRC G2P

I think it's called down-pipe or test-pipe that replace the cat section...

Get a re-built OEM unit. There are companies around that gut the OEM cat's and re-core them. Cost would probably be $350/side. They usually have units on the shelf so they do not need your cores until the new ones are installed.
