Default Certified PreOwned 2004 A6 . . . mistake?

Heres the deal, and I am not sophisticated enough about the car to understand the issues. I just bought a Certified Pre-owned from a dealership. . . . a^ with 45,500 miles. They have made so many mistakes with this deal, I can't even name them all. When it was delivered, the driver told me (after I bought it)_ that it had a shimmy at 65mph. Drove it today for the first time on the Hwy... bad shimmy. Looking at the repair docs the dealership did (they bought it at auction) --- the CV boot and drive shaft were replaced . . . feels like car has been driven hard, and not cared for. YET it has a 300 point checkup from the dealer. I think that the dealer may have just certified it without really making sure the car was as presented.

Any ideas on what causes the shimmy? Does the fact that the drive shaft was replaced have any real meaning on how the car was driven - or, have anything to do with the shimmy?? Does anyone have any experience with a Certified preowned?? Thanks so much.

Although unlikely, if the dealership didn't balance the driveshaft properly you can feel vibration. The shimmy is probably just the usual: needs tire balancing, bent rim, worn control arms.......blah blah blah. Take it to the dealer and ask them to check it out.

Welcome to the forums and in a little while when the bugs have been worked out you will love your car. Trust me.

I agree - the shimmy could be what was mentioned above.

I am new to the forums as well. One thing I like about this place is, no matter how upset we get at our cars - there is almost always someone there to remind us that there is light at the end of the tunnel and "everything is going to be alright" and you will love your car again etc.

CPO with a warranty, take it back to the dealer and have them fix it.

If it is Certified, it is Audi's problem.

that sucks. if it's within 4 yrs of in-service date, most items are covered under the original warranty. the CPO add-on is 2 additional years of limited warranty (ie. major components only). first thing you should do though is take it right back to where you bought it and have them look at it to be sure it's not just tires. i feel you pain dude, becausejust last weekend i bought my first Audi (2005 A6), and I debated long and hard paying up for CPO vs. buying from indy dealer. the more i found out about the CPO program, the less impressed i was by it. given that i was shopping for a car in 20k-30k miles range, i decided to not pay extra for CPO. however, reading horror stories about repair costs in 70k mile area, I may buy in to a 3rd party extended warranty contract just before my 4 yrs are up. anyway, at the very least you should be protected by lemon law in your state. if the car isn't what was represented to you and they can't fix it (other than tires) you probably have a good case against the dealer. good luck.
