Default Changing air filter in 1997 A6 Quattro Wagon

Hey folks

Need assistance ASAP on changing the air filter in my 1997 A6 2.8 Quattro wagon. Purchased a Mann filter some time ago and have been puzzled as to how to replace the old one. Usually in most other cars, replacement is a snap....but to my eyes...not in this case. Please be as specific as you can.

Any help would be appreciated....and...oh....any thoughts on how to replace the cabin filter?

Many thanks

It should be really easy. I just purchased a '97 A6 Avant and actually replaced the whole air intake system with K&N cone filter and setup.

Anyway, there are four clips on the stock air box. Two front and the rear clip closest to the fender all release in the same direction (up, I believe) while the fourth releases in the opposite direction. The only quirk I noticed. Now attached to the MAF is a few extra brackets that HOLD some vacuum lines in place. Other than that, is a fairly "normal" air filter replacement from what I can tell.

As far as the cabin filter, I will also be looking into replacing it soon. So if anyone has any "tricks", let us both know.

OBTW, I strongly suggest spark wire puller type tool when replacing the spark plugs. I had to "rig" an awe and vice grips to get the back four due to the fuel rail and injector placement in such close proximity.

Well, I got the air intake off of E-Bay. Do a search for Intake_Power as a seller. It was $55 + S&H. That is about what you would pay for just the K&N filter so I got a piece of aluminum as well. As far as any performance gains, probably not much. The system one is a bit close to the engine, plus it still runs through the baffling, so I do not think it straightens the airflow by the time it hits the engine. But, like I said, about the same cost as the K&N filter anyway, so I got it. Probably will see about 5% increase in fuel economy though.
