Changing Fuel filter
Once you actually see it, it's pretty straight forward. I think there is a bracket that has to be removed. The fuel lines attach to the filter using banjo fittings. Make sure you get 4 new crush washers with the filter. And be careful - you will have some fuel spillage. Rags, safety glasses, good ventilation etc., etc. You also might search the forums on AudiWorld.com. Lots of good info and tech articles.
On an A6 it should be under the hood kind of above and toward the back of the air filter. The manual suggests removing your fuel pump fuse and cranking the engine with the fuel pump off/fuse out to remove pressure from the line. Don't put the fuel in the filter back in the tank. Take the whole thing to a household hazardous waste site... there should be one close by and they are usually free.
