changing spark plugs
Hello
I have an Audi A6 2.4 V6 from 2002. I live in Sweden and have recently been experiencing temps of - 16. Last week the car developed a starting problem, which has happened a couple of times now. It usually starts first time, every time. The problem is :
upon first key turn .... very strong battery.... doesn't catch.
second turn .... catches but very low revs, popping from engine, trying to catch.
Third time.... starts fine.
I have also managed to get a signal lamp to show whilst accelerating. Took the car to Audi this morning and it signals a 'misfiring problem in cylinder 1', possibly, an ignition coil. But on further questioning, they also implied it could simply be a spark plug or lead!
The spark plugs were last changed at 115,000 km, it has now gone 155,000 km. I was told they should be changed every 60,000km.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem. Also, how tricky is it to change the spark plugs on this model. I used to own an Audi 100 and did almost everything on that car myself, this one I have owned a year and decided upon purchase to allow Audi to look after it, this is starting to prove a little costly!!!!

I just changed plugs on my 2000 A6 2.7t last week. Having recently bought the car used, it was my first plug change, at 102,000 miles.
The NGK platinum plugs had an indication in sign language on the box which seemed to mean, NOT to gap the plugs, so I didn't.
It ran irregularly at idle and below 2000 rpm, with intermittent misfires.
I pulled the plugs, and each of them was out of spec of 0.032 in. Once I gapped them and reinstalled them, the misfires totally stopped and it runs great. I just got 21.5 mpg this weekend on the highway.
Definitely check the plugs and gaps.
P.S.- Changing plugs on my engine was a PITA compared to other cars I've worked on.
