I picked up a used instrument cluster for a very low price that is in good condition (fading information panel). I have searched and found a lot of posts on cluster replacement but they referance new units as far a resetting the mileage. Question: can you reset the mileage on a used cluster with appropriate Vag-Com?

Not sure, but check Audiworld for a tech article (see the "resources" menu on that site) for a DIY on replacing the cluster. May have info about the reset you're looking for.

Did you have any luck? I also have a 2000 A6 and am wanting to replace my cluster with a used cluster. Our cars do not have immo 2 or 3 and should be easier to perform a USED cluster change out. I ahve found plenty on replacing the cluster with a NEW ($495) cluster. There should be only a soft code and milage to worry about but I am not sure. If you do make the swap please let me know how you do and I will do the same.

Sincerely,
Tom

Tom,
I have not replaced the cluster as of yet; I have purchased a good used unit for $225.00. I had a little trouble since there is only one cluster that will fit the 2000 model year. You are correct on the soft code, I purchased a VAG-COM cable (Ebay) and have the program so I can now read and set the soft code but not the mileage. I found a program on line that will allow ajustment of the mileage http://tachosoft.com/_vagdashtool.htm. I still have questions about it and I am doing some research to see how the Kilometers to miles works.

Thanks for the reply back. It is my understanding that the milage can be only flash coded ONCE. Since the USED cluster we have already have milage I do not think it can be flashed again. Let me know if you try .............. I will check out the link you sent. My car has 57K mile and I am losing my display. Seems Like a problem Audi should fix ........... sound like everyone has similar problems.

RE: Cluster swap 2000 A6
You are technically correct the unit can be flashed only once when the cluster has less than a 100 miles on it. This program hacks into the circuit and defeats the factory security. It could be used for rolling back speedos but that is not my purpose.

Please let me know if you were able to reset the mileage.
My understanding was you could do it only once with refurbished ones.
If we can do it with nonrefurbished used culsters, I'll go with it rather than paying for more than $450 for a refurbished one.
