comparison.
I'm new to the forum. I've tried searching prior to posting. However I'm not quite sure where I would post this. If it needs to be moved, please move it to the correct forum.
Just a little background. I've owned a couple BMWs (3 series and 1 older 5 series), I currently own the Mbenz C350 and Infiniti G35coupe (G35 is DD).
I'm aware of the costs for maintaining german vehicles and service from dealerships. BMW is by far the worst in customer service! Mbenz is one of the best I've dealt with.
My reason for looking into the audi is mainly for the Quattro AWD feature and I think it's a good all around luxury vehicle.
My question is apart from the size, what are the key features or differences between the 2005-2006 S4 and the 2005-2006 A6 4.2?
Is there any comparison for S4 and the A6 4.2 when it comes to the purchasing? I'm not reading much information in the A6 forums. Seem like more people in the S4/A4 is more active or just more people own one of these.
The price for the S4/A6 4.2 is just about the same for price/miles... however the feature/options in the price range seems to me that A6 has more options.
If there are any information you can give me will be appreciated.
thanks.

Take a look at this link and you can look up the information on both models and compare.

I can give you my impressions only, based on looking at used RS4s. First off, the A4 line is more a sports car at a lower price point than an equivalent A6, therefore there are more of them. They match up against the BMW line A4/3 series, A6/5 series, and A8/7 series. I've looked at a few RS4 with the 4.2 engine and they are sweet packages, well laid out, nice interiors, but small on the inside. Many of them come with manual tranny 6 (MT6).
The A6 line is more a sports luxury touring vehicle rather than a sports car. They are bigger overall, and a little heavier (~400 lbs). I am pretty sure the A6/4.2 only comes with an automatic.
If you're looking for very good performance, an MT6, and typically drive alone or with significant other, then the RS4 is a fine choice. If you take long road trips, carry family or customers, the A6/4.2 is a rock solid choice.
The quattro in my A6 has been spectacular for winter driving. And I drive across MI I-96 in very harsh conditions all winter. I could not imagine doing it in a RWD BMW or anything else for that matter.

I understand they are both two different category cars. I guess just from personal experience, wanted to see if anybody ever owned both of these models at the same time or has earned one or the other model and can give me some input on any problems/fixes with these, etc.
I live in Seattle and it rains constantly! There are more rainy days and bad snow or just icy road days than there are hot sunny days...

I have owned both body sizes , one after the other. While my engine options were not the s4/4.2 a6, I can tell you that the small A4 size is adept at hard cornering and it is quite fun in the snow. It likes to let it's rear swing if you want it to. The A6 has the 2.7t and it is fast, but it would rather corner at slower speeds and is more focused on the comfort of the ride than the A4 was.
