So I read a post that the C6 A6 still needs a timing belt change at 75K. Is this true? I was under the opinion that both the 2005 A6 4.2 and 3.2 had the chains, not belts so no timing belt work was needed.

Can someone verify this for me?

They do indeed have timing belts. The chains someone might be referring to are the chains that link the camshafts.

 

Just searched and multiple posts indicate chain, not belt, are you sure the C6s aren't a chain. Not trying to be argumentative, new here and still getting up to speed.

 

In the C6 the engines have timing chains. They do not have timing belts. The belt that gets replaced at 75K miles is the ribbed belt.

3.2 FSI is chain. Ribbed belt = serpentine belt, toothed belt = timing belt

 

The 4-cylinder engines have timing belts.
