Default Control Arms - Which Way to Go?

Front Lower control arm balljoints show play in them. Time for replacement. We'll be changing out all upper & lowers CA, since I don't think they've been done since new. Car now has 158K miles. Upper CA don't seem to have play in them, although I've read they are a common problem. I've found numerous DIY instructions for changing upper & lowers, so no problems there.
Here's my question:
Can ball joints be purchased separately & press out/in to control arm?

I've seen individual bushings for sale, but not the ball joints. I have a press & have redone bushings/balljoints on other cars.
Was looking to save some $$, yet still get good quality components.

I've seen up/low kits for various brands & prices $200 - 480, but I figure lots of $$ can be saved if I reuse my old CA's.

If I go the kit route, I'm tempted to stay away from the cheaper end because & read mixed opinions & I believe you get what you pay for. I don't want crappy quality.
