Default coolant temp sensor?

Okay... so I know that my engine coolant temperature sensor needs to be changed.. Car was hard to start sometimes when warm, and then I got a code for it about a week ago, had the code cleared... and now im just waiting for a day off of work to replace the part. Now my question is, I have been getting really crappy gas mileage the last week or so, and I am wondering if the coolant temp sensor is to blame?... or do I have more problems than I know about?

Thanks in advance for any answers!

howmany miles do you have? your O2 sensors may be to blame for the bad mileage

Yes the temp sensor DEFINITELY has an effect on your power and gas mileage. When mine was bad, it always registered my car as being cold so it was constantly running in warm up mode, which burns more gas. It should go up significantly after you change it, at least mine did.

Could anybody post a photo on the ECT (green) location on 2.7T (shields and intake pipe off) please?

lol sorry.. meant to post before, that it was a p0116 code that I got

I looked it up and knew that it was a coolant temp. sensor, just wasnt sure if that would make a difference in gas mileage

Thanks for the answers though... its getting replaced this weekend though, so its all good!

Yes, it will affect your MPG greatly. With a bad one, the car thinks it's always in warm up mode. It will also make the car feel sluggish.
