Correct 18" wheel size for 2004 A6 3.0L

What is the correct 18" wheel size (used on the S6?) for a 2004 3.0L? 18 x 8" or 18 x 8.5"? Does it matter as long as they are the right pattern?

I think you can use an 8 but 8.5 is the norm with a 35 offset and a 5x112 bolt pattern
