Default Dash cup holder won't stay closed

I have the opposite problem of most owners. The cup holder in my dash won't stay closed. I usually have to play around with it to get it to close, but when I hit a bump, it will pop open.

Is there some sort of adjustment that I can make, or is the mechanism shot?

2001 A6 4.2

TIA

Most likely chance is the plastic piece that catches the latch thingy simply broke off. I've had it happen to both of the rear cup holders in my fiance's car - i took them apart and the little plastic piece is simply broken off (because someone got frustrated and smashed them in way too hard).

Buy a new one, take it out and/or fix it, or live with it. I've had success super gluing tiny little pieces back on to make a latch functional again, so it's doable. Plenty of them are on ebay too.

Isn't that wonderbar!!!

The undersized poorly located good for nothing cup holder that keeps popping open.

Forget performance, we need some cup holder mod threads that's for sure.
