Default Dash readout display problem

After a 6 year absence of no Audi (previlously 100Avant and 200Avant) I'm jumping back in with a 2001 A6 4.2. The car that I'm looking at has one issue that I can see and that is the dash readout is stuck at 100 degrees and 17.4 mpg. When I first took the car for a test drive, the temp readout was totally haywire (random led's lit) then settled down to read 100 consistently. I was told that the car had not been driven much lately and had been sitting in the sun which may have affected the readout temporarily (by their service manager), but wanted to see what best and worse case scenarios would be to get it fixed. I don't know that it's a show-stopper and the dealer does give a 1 month warranty albeit they pay 50% of any repairs. All of the other functions of the display seemed to be fine when I toggled through the displays.

Thanks and it's good to be home again.
