Diagnostic tools

So can anyone explain what the main differences are between the Harbor Freight tool and the Ross-Tech system? I know that Ross-Tech uses a laptop, but I'm more interested in the differences in capabilities. Any help would be appreciated.

The HF one is a scan tool with limited abilities. It'll read, tell and clear/reset but not much else. The ross-tech does just about everything they can do at the dealer like enable options, record real-time data, etc.
If all you wanna do is read and reset, this'll do.

Now, you can buy a cable off of e-bay and other sites that work with the free version of ross-tech. Cost ya $20-70 not including a laptop.

LOL Why not get a refurb PC with XP for about $200 add a cheap monitor and Ross tech just for the vehicle? If you choose the $10 cable option and free Ross Tech software you can do the whole thing for around $250. and have a PC for the kids to play with. On the other hand refurb laptops are running about $500 -many times less.
