Im trying to understand the difference between the 42.l engines.
I know there are different engine codes but considering the engine codes are the same how would I know the difference between the early AWN code or the late AWN code (for example). I could have swore I saw a vin decode on a website regarding this but I cant find it now. Thanks in advance for your help.

 

If the code is the same, there is no difference.

 

Thanks for the reply. I found on blauparts they seperate the 4.2 engines in to 3 VIN ranges ART, Early AWN and late AWN. Im pretty sure I ahve an ART engine judging by their system. Does anyone know what the difference is when it comes to timing belts? I have found some good deals online but they seem to only apply to 2002+ models.
