Default Direct wiring a Radar Detector

06 A6 using the cig plugs for the radar detector but I soon learned they are always powered unlike many other cars when you turn them off. What's a few alternative places to wire it into..safely?

Either connect it to the wire that goes to your left turn signal, or get a wiring diagram and find a circuit that goes on and off with the key.

On the other hand -- A few minutes at the fuse box with an VOM will also help you identify where you might find a good connection point. If your really lucky there might be an empty fuse position.

i dont know if ur a6 is like the a4 b6 model but i hardwired mine though the sunroof panel. There is a place where u can tap into power very easy only draw back is u have to cut your plug to gain access to wires. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=189139
