downpipes?

downpipes?
Hi all,
Just got an A6 (109k), learning all about them. However, it just set off a engine light warning because of a catalytic conv reading. The local Audi shop said that was a common problem with stock cats, that the sensors were too restrictive and that if I took it to the dealer to have it tested, they might OK it's function and change the chip settings to a wider normal range to not set off the sensors.
Sounds reasonable, but what do I know.
Part 2... Alternative option ... getting VAST piggie downpipes with the new cats on em? I understand that they decrease resistance and therefore make my turbos more happy with less lag (and I need the turbos to last as long as possible). What's the downside? Does it get noisy? (I'm old enough to think a noisy exhaust is a bad thing). Worse MPG? Bad emissions? Also, I read about chipping after getting the DPs. Is that necessary? I do actually have an MTM already installed, but no idea how I would adjust the thing if necessary.
Anyway, just a newbie trying to understand things, and very appreciative of any help. Thanks,
Peter

RE: downpipes?
All Vast Piggies are.. are your stock DPs gutted and relocated O2 Bungs pass the precats so yuo don't throw a cell and can pass emission tests. NO downside. NOT NOISY, sounds barely barely louder than stock. A little deeper. Definitely adds torque and you'll feel the extra grnut at low RPM;s
CHIP and Piggies are a good combo...

RE: downpipes?
Do I need to reprogram my chip after installing piggies?
and a theory question: If there is no downside, why didn't Audi make 'em this way to start?
Thanks for the help!! (PS I like the rims on your pic in the sig)
