My drivers side front brake caliper is making an aweful grinding noise. Kinda like the brake caliper is not completely releasing. It started today when I was on the highway. As soon as I turn or pull to the right it startsmaking the noise real bad. I had it towed to my german mechanic cause I didn't want to risk angthing bad happening. Anyone else ever had this problem and what was the diagnosis? My mechanic won't know anything until tomorrow so I thought in the meanwhile I hop the forums and get some info.Thanks,

p.s....I have a 01 4.2 with the larger hp2 caliper setup.

 

Sounds like a wheel bearing.

 

Probably a rock or something that got caught in the caliper and rotor or it could just be bad brake pads.

 

Well I got the mechanics diagnosis today and it wasn't as bad as I thought. He told me that one of the bolts that holds the caliper on had broken off and was rubbing the rotor. He had to drill it out and rethread it and it was good to go. Weird.

 

Glad to hear that it is something as easy as that. I can only imagine what most mechanics would say it is and the cost for a brand new caliper when all you needed is a bolt.
