drivers windows autodowns by itself - wont go up all the way
Hello
I have an 2002 a6 3.0 and my drivers side window has an issue - this started after i left the window down one night and it got rained inside a little bit - go with me through this on my thought process
issue - window goes down fine no noises - upon having it go up it goes fine until like half way then it slows down and stops at about 3/4 and then auto-downs automatically - if you hold the switch up and then have someone else's hands clapped upon each side of the window and pulling it it will override the autodown and allow me to close it - im thinking there might be a corrosion issue on the master switch or something short circuited inside the module of wires
any thoughts upon this - anyone have this issue - the motor is fine - it just autodowns
thanks

one of my rear windows does this....rarely
I don't think it is an electrical issue. I think it is a "friction" problem. If I'm not mistaken our cars have that safety feature that if the window encounters an obstruction on the way up it assumes it is something important like your finger or head or something that you don't want squished in the window, and autodowns. I've never tested that theory though so....
or I could be wrong

very interesting - the second i read it - good logic behind it im curious, it makes alot sense - especially by how i can over-ride the auto-down when i have both hands grasping the inside and outside of the window and then have someone else hit the button up - ill be taking the door panel off and taking everything out and cleaning everything soon
any other ideas or experiences please shoot

You might be able to replace the clips within that time, but I seriously doubt that a first-timer could. I think shop time is ~3hrs/door since the entire window frame must be removed.

Was definitely as easy as he made it look when I did my passenger side window.
definitely not 3hrs...
about an hr, maybe faster if you have a helper

Hello
thanks for the replies - Before i saw these comments - yesterday i took off the panel and lubricated everything and it make the window roll down smoother but it still slows down and then auto-downs on the way up - also it sounds super "gritty" when the window is running up and down the track
I saw what you are referencing to as having to pull out the whole inner door frame - for any first timer with common sense and a little knowledge they should be able to do it - as i believe in myself - i also have my dad to contact who has worked at a body shop for 15 years who rebuilds everything and has taught me everything but i feel confident in this operation for myself
also thanks for the video post - if anyone else has pictures, videos, or tutorials please post as well as if anyone has other thoughts and ideas please post
i will check out these clips and post updates whenever i have time to take this apart
