Default ECU flashing

Hello people,

Wanting to change my engine's ECU file, but wouldn't like to mess it up.
Thought it was better to inform myself with people with knowledge on this topic.

-Where do I find the ECU number? I opened the box, but the ECU is in a metal sleeve, guess the sticker is below it? Do I need the number to flash the correct file?

-Does the new tuned ECU file needs the be specific for my own car? Or can I flash any tuned filewith the same engine details? (I'm thinking on immobilizer problems etc.)

-My car's an A6, 96kW, 1.9TDI PD. I have a tuned file for a A4 96kW 1.9TDI. Can I flash this file, or better leave it alone?

Many thanks already for some answers... Can't afford to have my car immobilized these days

If you have a vag-com it should give the part number when you go into the engine control module.

VAG-COM gives this:

Vag number: 038906019CF
Component: 1,9L R4 EDCG000SG1414

Not sure wether this number is the one I need. I thought it was something with EDC15P, or is this only the number for the fuel system?

Hmm. The vag number seeems more like a part number to me. But thats only due to the length. However the component number would be more likly the part number, but it looks nothing like an ecm number ive seen before. We dont have disels here in the us thou.
