Flashing ECU on 1.8T B6
Hi Guys,
So i've been reading the forums and the "noob lists" and everyone seems to agree that flashing the ECU is a HUGE bang for your buck return, so Im ready to take the plunge. It will be my first mod in conjuction with painting the lowers on my stock 2002 B6.
I only have ONE CONCERN - will the extra HP make my engine prone to breakdown more often? And do I need to mod anything in the engine to make sure it can handle the extra HP? (i really don't want to go crazy with mods and im on a budget so Im hoping I can leave the engine alone. The only thing I will consider is a better set of coils for the shocks.)
The APR rep told me some people do the diverter valve - but its absolutely not necessary and that the stock engine will be just fine?
Your feedback would be much appreciated - i need this car for daily commute and don't want to risk it breaking down any more than it normally may without the Stage 1 flash.
Thanks!

The flash is indeed the best way to go...Here is what you'll need to have the car running smoothly after the flash.
NEW coilpacks.... Many here recommend it and you can use the old ones as spare as the re-flash tends to burn them out. consider this, I replaced my coilpacks the same day I had the re-flash done and it's been 2 years and they are still running fine.
Oil change..... Not entirely necessary but just do it. Your turbo will be working harder and hotter so budget for the oil change. Castrol 0W30 synthetic is best IMHO (make sure it says MADE IN GERMANY and before a mechanic ***** up your engine make him show you the oil he's putting in. Never take their word for it, they are so casual about oil)
710N diverter valve. YOU DEFINITELY NEEDS THIS. the shop will install it or sell you one to install yourself.
New spark plugs. This is important due to the increased load and you have to gap them a bit closer than stock.... A quick search on this forum will tell you how.
If a mechanic tell you that you don't need these things he's BSing you.
I'll put it to you this way. Those that did not make these changes prior to or immediately after re-flashing their ECU have had problems. Those that have (like me) have experienced NO problems whatsoever from the re-flash.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for the useful info Pablo. A couple of questions:
1. For the replacement coilpacks, do you just suggest getting new OEM ones?
2. For the DV i was thinking of getting this one from APR installed:
http://www.goapr.com/products/r1.html
I like it because it has no moving parts therefore does not need to be maintained as much. What do you think?
Also am interested in getting some coilovers for the stock shocks to hopefully lower about a 1/2 inch and get a little bit more of that sport handling feel to it. Any experience or recommendations?
Again - thanks for taking the time to respond - Its a big help and I really appreciate it.

YES. THAT'S ALL YOU NEED

MY TAKE ON THESE FANCY DVs IS THAT IF YOU LIKE TO TINKER AND DON'T MIND PULLING A PART OUT EVERY NOW AND THEN TO CLEAN IT THEN GET THE SHINY LOOKING ONES BUT IF YOU JUST WANT TO INSTALL IT AND NOT WORRY ABOUy IT FOR A FEW YEARS THEN GET THE 710N WHICH IS AVAILABLE AT ANY AUDI DEALERSHIP. ALSO, BE ADVISED THAT THIS DV IS FOR THE 225HP AUDI TT SO YOU HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC WHEN YOU ASK FOR IT AT THE PARTS COUNTER.

IT DOES HAVE MOVING PARTS MY FRIEND
