Electric Cooling Fans

Electric Cooling Fans
I have a 2000 Audi A6 4.2 with 77K miles and neither of the two auxilliary cooling fans on the radiator are turning on. The temp guage on the dash has gone as high at 2/3 to HOT and still climbing when I pulled off of the road and shut it off to let it cool. There isn't a fuse in the fuse pannel labeled for it so I'm assuming that there is a circuit breaker somewhere. Anyone have any ideas? Also, is there a temperature switch in the radiator that controlls them or are they controlled by the computer?

RE: Electric Cooling Fans
First off, just pulling over and shutting the engine off is probably the wrong thing to do if it is running hotter than normal. At least while the engine is running, it is getting coolant and oil to help cool it down. I would strongly advise AGAINST driving it again, until you have the problem fixed. Otherwise, if you must or this happens again and the engine is just very hot (nothing broken) pull over into the emergency lane, pop the hood and let the engine idle (if able keep the car moving to circulate more air).
Check your owners manual, there should be a fuse for them. I have replaced these before (an old Acura) and they were not very expensive; of course I did not get them from the Acura dealership!!
