If you have the owner's manual, it will have a service interval table for lubrication, etc. Some shops will offer service which may or may not be required. They may improperly service the Audi, since they do not have the BentleyPublishers.com Audi shop manual or the necessary tools. Shops prey on people who agree to their suggested work to be done. A knowlegable Audi owner should know when to say "no". Shops frequently want to replace as many parts as possible to make more profit, while ignoring more important required service.

The shop I work out of has a body shop licenses, if you need your bumper fixed. My price is not just to pull or clear your code, it would be to diag the problem and get you a very reasonable estimate for the repair. If you bring the car over to my shop I'll looked the whole thing over for you.

Princess G,

Hold off and see if it will stay off or comes back on. These cars have a ton of "quirks" to put it politely. It may have been a one time deal misfire, a sensor that just didn't read who knows. If it's off then your car has started 4 times without the problem re-occurring. (That's Good!) You Do not need the engine code to pull the Diagnostic trouble codes. (by the way it's AHA for the first part of 2000 and ATQ for the second part of 2000) You do not need it for a Generic scanner or a Vag-Com I have no idea what those guy's told you, but it would appear they know less than you so don't go back. You should just pull in to any Chain type Auto store and they can hook up a generic scanner for free then post those findings here. Or go to Audi or better yet VW and have them scan it (they will charge but VW charges less than Audi). Don't let them Diagnose it, Be adamant about it! Audi charged me 150.00 for a diagnosis I did not want and I had to tell their so called head he was wrong -and he was wrong. clueless! I wasn't even there for that.
