Default expansion tank replacement question

Ihave a 2000 a6 and the coolant expansion tank had a crack that caused a slow leak. i replace the tank this weekend but could not get the overflow "valve out of the bottom of the old tank. Between the tank and the drain hose. WhenI pushed too hard it broke- I put in the new tank with out it and routed a new drain hose.

Do i really need to replace this part???

thanks for your help!!!

WTF are you talking about? The float is built into the expansion tank, it already has one in the new tank.

directly below the cap -at the bottom of the tank is the overflow drain opening. the original tank had a device inserted to the opening which caused a 90 degree turn then it emptied into a hose that directed any overflow off the engine itself. when i tried to remove the device from the bottom of the old tank to install into the new one, it broke. I have now omitted it from the new installation- what possible negative effects will this cause?? That's WTF i'm talking about.

If and when it overflows, you will just have some coolant residue on the block itself. I would replace it, but some people call me maticulous, aka ****. Can't be more than a few bucks from the dealer anyways.
