i will be getting a gorgeous white 2001 4.2L with 69k miles on the clock come tuesday (hopefully)...

the dealer is offering me a 3 year/38,500 mile extended warranty through "Guardian Warranty Corporation" which doesn't seem too good. i was looking around and found "Great Lakes Warranty Corporation" which looks to be much better.

has anyone heard of them? if not, can anyone recommend a good warranty? AAA will only give me a 2 year/24,000 miles deal.....and i will be putting more than that on her.

also, at 69k should i just do the 80k service now? can i get it through the warranty?

yea, i actually read that one before i posted. most of the warranties listed in there still give mileage restrictions, which i'm not down with. that's why i was asking about the great lakes one. it's a 4 year/unlimited miles plan.

Something to consider; I have a friend who purchased an extended warranty when he purchased a new car. When he went to utilize it he found out the underwriting company went out of business.

Insurance companies invest your money in financialinstruments which may be effected by the subprime mess. I would want to know the company will be there if and when you need them.

 

Warranties typically cover repairs to failed parts/systems only and often have a deductible. Maintenance isscheduled serviceand you pay for it. So expect to lay out $1000-2000 for your timing belt change depending on who does the work.

If you read the threads (do a search on "warranty")you'll see there are those who swear by warranties and those who don't believe in them. I belong to the latter camp. If you have had the vehicle inspected and it looks sound, I'd take the warranty money and invest it in a nice, safe CD. The only thing that has gone wrong with my A6 in 2+ years and 67k miles is the alternator, a $600 repair. The clutch/flywheel were the result of chipping the car and I'm sure any warranty company would find a way to reject that claim because of performance modifications.

 

Give AA Auto Warranty a call and talk to the rep about Great Lakes. He can give you all of that information. Thats who I'm going to go with once I save the money. They don't have a payment plan. So right now I'm praying nothing goes wrong before I can save up for it.
