First car - Audi - Some questions
Hey guys,
I turned 18 yesterday and my parents surprised me with a 2000 2.7t. I just have a few questions about the car.
1. When i turn it off sometimes and take the key out, the mileage like stays running on. Also, the fans seem to remain running even after the car is turned off, even if no fans were on before the car was turned off. Is this normal?
2. The engine is running a little rough so I wanted a tune-up done, and was wondering how much it costs on this type of a car.
3. The in dash CD player is showing up with an ERR1, so I was wondering if there is a fix to this. I searched for it and it seems the problem is probably a dirty lens?
4. The magazine tray in the back for the 6 cd changer is missing so I was wondering where I could purchase just the tray.
Thanks in advance

RE: First car - Audi - Some questions
all is normal and happy birthday
err1 means there is no cd magazine in there and for the fan to stay on means you have driven it hard and its on to cool the turbo and engine ( similar to a timer )

RE: First car - Audi - Some questions
1. Mileage stays displayed for a while, it is normal and goes blank in a short amount of time, as for the fans, that is normal too as stated in the above post.
2. Depends on where you go really, at the dealer it'll obviously be more than an indy shop, however if you do go indy make sure that you go to someone who knows Audi's
3. ERR1 is that there is no disc or it cannot read the disc. Usually not a dirty lens unless it consistantly cannot read discs
4. No idea where you can purchase only the tray, maybe someone else can point you towards a link
Congrats on the new car, I wish my parents had surprised me like that haha.

About the fans: I meants there is air coming out of the vents that is for the AC, and they do not seemingly turn off. When i sat in my car this morning, they were still running. Is this normal because I don't want my battery drained...
Also, I found the magazine if anyone was wondering: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...mp;engine=2.7T

Disc error - you probably have broken disc changer. I had my magazine missing too, bought one from ebay for 30$ (you can too, the guy have like 100+ of them) and it turned out that the changer itself is broken (bad optical) so I'll have to get another one for at least 100$ when I get some extra money for this.
About rough engine running, learn to do all the stiff yourself, otherwise you will not be able to affort the car unless your parents are rich =)
Is your check engine light on? If yes, go to Autozone and borrow their OBDII code reader. Get engine fault codes and fix the issues.
If not, start with simple:
1 new spark plugs.
2 new air/fuel/(oil =) filter, I know this might be stupid but some people does not know that engine oil must be changed...
3 check your sparkplug wires with multimeter to make sure there is no crazy resistance there.
4 Replace your transmission/differnetial fluid
5 possible something else, I never had a turbo don't know what those cars have.
ps/ buy a bentley repair manual

Timing belt, water pump was changed by the last owner not too long ago.
Engine oil was just put in on Saturday
I'm buying a cd lens cleaner today I'll see if that fixes anything. If the in dash one is broken hopefully the changer in the back isn't, but I can't tell until I get the magazine.

Regarding the fan, it sounds like you may have the warm weather package. It has a solar panel in the sunroof that powers the ventilation fan when the car is off to keep the temps on the inside of the car down.

also when you get your oil changed, be sure and use synthetic. especially for 2.7t. laso on this engine, be sure and let your oil temp get to optimum temp before even letting the rpm's get too far above 2k. this is a good cautionary measure for extending turbo life. do what SSn said and learn to do as much yourself as possible as far as routine maintanence goes. that way you get to know your car better and can diagnose things easier. my bentley manual is a life and money saver. not to mention, it's kinda fun.
