Default Flashing "in Dash" brake light...HELP!

I recently purchased a 1999 Audi A6 Quattro w/ @ 140,000 miles. Very nice car except the "BRAKE" light ONLY on the instrument panel flashes continuosly and beeps (3) times every time I turn on the ignition. There is NO ABS light. Can someone fill me in on what the problem may be? Is it something a do-it-yourselfer such as myself can handle? Or is is something a TECH has to handle? Thank you!

has the abs bulb been removed a little cheat some sales people do to get a deal ?? because the flashing break light indicates a problem with the ABS main module ECU

check your brake fluid level, then check your rear brake pads

Rears don't have wear sensors I thought?

You are correct, the rear pads have NO sensors

But if the pads are worn really low then the brake fluid is also going to be low (it has to go somewhere)

Thats also the reason why you shouldnt top off the brake fluid. Its a good indicator of the wear on the brake pads. Besides when you push the pistons back in when doing breaks it will leak out if its been topped off.
