Default fluid help

I feel really stupid for asking this but I did not get an owners manual with my 2.7t and I just got it not too long ago. But what kind of fluid is the very top container when you pop the hood? Its a red liquid and almost feels like water to me. It is under the minimum so I need to figure out what it is and if i need to get a specific audi kind. I really appreciate the help guys

Coolant. G12 spec which is used by VW and Audi. If you pour normal green coolant into the container, it will turn the entire cooling system into a gel. So don't do it. FYI, a gallon of G12 from Audi is about $22. I think you can get them cheaper at VW dealership.

If you're down just a little (like a pint) it is OK to top off with distilled water. Then try to get some Audi/VW 50-50 coolant for top offs.

use waterwetter. its the shiet. you can get it at a lot of places.

I assume you are saying topping off the Audi coolant with green coolant will turn it to gel, not that a system with JUST green in it will gel up or eat the rad or something.

Just had my rad replaced, they filled it with green, so think I am safe. Giving this 90 100 to one of my kids.

As long as all residual fluid was drained and flushed out, I don't see a problem with using conventional coolant. As you noted, G12 and conventional coolant, when mixed, turn into gel.

Anyways, 1990 100 should be conventional green coolant anyways. VAG started to use G12 starting on 1997 I think. You should be alright.
