Front axles, can I replace or to the shop?
Most of the replacements ive seen are smaller in diameter. Not to mention I think the last thing you need to worry about is the shaft itself, more so the joint and not tightening the bolts up enough. The replacements also seem like they are made of a different composition or a different metal or something too, unless you car is modded like crazy, those shafts are never even gonna scratch.
I've been told the same, I'm going to repack this weekend.
I've never been told that but I'm hesitant to believe dealers when they say things like that. Could just be a $$$ ruse. I'm no mechanical engineer but I just replaced an axle with an aftermarket that after cleaning and inspection against the stock looked more solidly designed.
I am getting a clicking in the front left during turns in taht direction.
Local repair shop indicates it is the axle assembly and will cost $900 with OEM part and $500 with Chinese after market part.
Please provide any perspective on OEM vs. A Market, the pricing, etc.
Thank you.

I think the "indestructible" factory CV joints must be in the same category as the "lifetime" transmission fluid. I can tell you that the "indestructible" CV joints in my wife's A6 were apparently no match for her driving, because they were shot. When dealers give out advice, you have to consider the source.
