Front CV Boots of 2002 A6 2.7 T
I recently noticed that front two rims of my car were getting a drk residue while the rear rims remained perfetclty clean. I called in the dealership and they told me it is probably because CV boots are leaking. To put in the new ones will cost $600.
I am thinking of getting them myself and get some mechanic put them in for me. I reckon it would be cheaper than getting this done from the dealership. Does any one know how much would the CV boots cost and is putting them in easier for some one who normally does not work on Audis.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I had both of mine replaced as well but at different intervals. I am not sure how much I paid, I would have to go back to my receipts, but I did not pay $600.00 for sure.
I have a great inde mechanic who purchased and installed them for me!
Definitely shop it!

I just had one replaced by an independent shop (specializes in Audi/VW only). Cost me less than $200 for one side. Dealer quoted me $350+. Parts, probably $30-40 for the kit, but it is a messy job. I could do it myself, but man, all that grease! It is worth it to have someone else get dirty for me, but not worth having the daeler do it.
Unfortunately, one of the very few things excluded on the extended warranty. Would ahve been covered if it happened a few weeks earlier...

Replacement boots are inexpensive. Labor for each side is roughly 1-2hrs, depending how thorough they are with cleaning the joint and the affected areas where grease was leaked onto.
Check out our website for the replacement boots.

Leaking CV boots can also cause a little brake squeal if the grease gets on your rotors and then of course it gets on your brake pads!
This is how I noticed mine were leaking!

My shop guy just told me that my boots need to be replaced and he said it would be between $350 and $400 for the whole job and that included parts. My guy is extremely thorough and has not screwed me around in the past. He only does German cars and I have been with him since 98.
