Default Front fog light

Hey guys, I know it is a commen problem for the drivers side fog light to go out. My car is a 2000 2.8 quattro, since I bought the car the left fog has always been problems. I usually just had to tap it to get it to work, now i actually have to hit it a bit harder and it will work, and i kept doing it since.

Well kind of fed up with having to hit it almost all the time to make it work, so today I opened it up to see if the bulb was in bad shape or anything but everything checked out. I poped it back in and started to adjust my fogs when after about 5 mins or so they turn off, so I go to check the fuse and it was blown. I disconect the left fog and turn on the fogs (after replacing fuse) and everything works. I then reconnect the left fog and it sitll works for about another 5 mins till the fuse blows again.

Do you guys think I should go ahead and replace the whole housing or try to replace the bulb? I'm also thinking the car is at fault so possibly later on this week I will try to swap left with right and see if the fuse still blows.

As of now I took the fog out of the car and hooked it up to a 12 volt converter and everything works with no problem.

Mine were constantly going out, found out it was due to faulty ground connection inside lamp assembly. I rewired all the connections and cleaned the grounding post with some open mesh type sandcloth. Worry free for 3 months since that minor operation

I've got the same exact problem.

how hard is it/what do you have to do to access drivers side fog lite bulb assembly to clean up connections?

which conection are you cleaning?
bulb base?
wire to socket?
wire to harness?

thanks for the info..

easy enough to get to the bulb, pull the grille insert, then undo the 2 phillips screws on the top side of the fog light assy, once you have the assy out it is 2 more phillips to crap the assy open, you'll notice the 2 wires coming in, 1 goes to the bulb the other to the post, that post is the ground and if water has ever entered your assy, corrosion can build up there fast due to electroloysis, clean the post and repair heat shrink any exposed or bare wiring.

Thanks for the input, I deided to open up both fog lights and found that the previous owner of the car replaced the right side fog with a blue light. So I bought a 25 pack of fuses put a new one in, tested it with out the frong fogs and everything worked I then put the new bulbs in and right away both bulbs turned on.

Who ever the previous owner of my car was really half-assed everything, both lights on the right side were blue bulbs (headlight and fog) where on the left they were left stock. I really don't see why anyone would buy one good part put it on one side and not even consider putting the same part on the otherside.
